With the innovation of at-home medical test kits, you may be able to cut down on co-pays and time spent in waiting rooms, and avoid many other annoyances of going to the doctor. A variety of diagnostic medical tests that you can use in the comfort of your own home can be found at your local pharmacy or purchased online. From HIV to allergies and beyond, these tests can help you figure out what may be ailing you. But, like any medical test, over-the-counter products are not foolproof. Be sure to speak to a doctor to get a better understanding of the results and,
to find out if follow-up testing is necessary.
Disclaimer – The Celtic Cross Foundation of Ministry and or any of it’s Divisions and Subdivisions are providing this information as FREE ADVICE. The test Kits are available at most any Pharmacy throughout the USA in all 50 States. It is recommended that you contact your Doctor for
follow up questioning and to set an appointment for further testing and diagnoses and treatment.
HIV – Oraquick, approximate cost $40
There are two home HIV tests on the market, the most popular of which is Oraquick from Orasure. Just swab your gum and you'll have an HIV-status result in 20 to 40 minutes. Oraquick boasts, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirms, a nearly 92 percent accuracy for positive tests and a 99 percent accuracy for negative tests. The test can detect both HIV-1, the most common kind, and HIV-2, a strain of the disease that’ much more rare in the U.S. If you test positive, Oraquick recommends scheduling a follow-up test with your doctor. If you test negative, the company recommends taking the test again in three months for confirmation. The other at-home HIV test is made by Home Access and offers the same accuracy level as Oraquick, but requires a blood sample and at least a week of waiting to get results.
Strep – Rapid Response Test Kit, approximate cost $45
If you or your child gets strep throat often, you may be able to save a trip to the doctor by using a Rapid Response strep test kit. Like throat cultures used in doctors' offices, this test involves swabbing your throat, agitating the swab in a test tube, and using the test strip to see your results. According to Rapid Response and the FDA, the test has a 97 percent accuracy rate for strep A. If you test positive, call your doctor to discuss treatment options. If the results are negative, your sore throat may be caused by a virus, not strep, and you may just need to ride it out. If you test negative but are still showing signs of infection, such as a fever, consult your doctor. Other at-home strep kits are available as well, such as Pro Advantage made by National Distribution and Contracting, Inc.
Allergies – MyAllergyTest, approximate cost $53
Curious about whether your sniffles and itches are caused by allergies? The MyAllergyTest kit from ImmuneTech, the first and only at-home allergy test, tests for the 10 most common allergens: timothy grass, bermuda grass, cedar, ragweed, mold, egg, milk, wheat, cats, and house dust mite, with an FDA-confirmed 93 percent accuracy. In addition to the results, you get a personalized allergy management plan and a list of allergists in your area to consult.
