a Medical Outreach Division Program

With the innovation of at-home medical test kits, you may be able to cut down on co-pays and time spent in waiting rooms, and avoid many other annoyances of going to the doctor. A variety of diagnostic medical tests that you can use in the comfort of your own home can be found at your local pharmacy or purchased online. From HIV to allergies and beyond, these tests can help you figure out what may be ailing you. But, like any medical test, over-the-counter products are not foolproof. Be sure to speak to a doctor to get a better understanding of the results and,

to find out if follow-up testing is necessary.

Disclaimer – The Celtic Cross Foundation of Ministry and or any of it’s Divisions and Subdivisions are providing this information as FREE ADVICE. The test Kits are available at most any Pharmacy throughout the USA in all 50 States. It is recommended that you contact your Doctor for

follow up questioning and to set an appointment for further testing and diagnoses and treatment.

HIV – Oraquick, approximate cost $40

There are two home HIV tests on the market, the most popular of which is Oraquick from Orasure. Just swab your gum and you'll have an HIV-status result in 20 to 40 minutes. Oraquick boasts, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirms, a nearly 92 percent accuracy for positive tests and a 99 percent accuracy for negative tests. The test can detect both HIV-1, the most common kind, and HIV-2, a strain of the disease that’ much more rare in the U.S. If you test positive, Oraquick recommends scheduling a follow-up test with your doctor. If you test negative, the company recommends taking the test again in three months for confirmation. The other at-home HIV test is made by Home Access and offers the same accuracy level as Oraquick, but requires a blood sample and at least a week of waiting to get results.

Strep – Rapid Response Test Kit, approximate cost $45

If you or your child gets strep throat often, you may be able to save a trip to the doctor by using a Rapid Response strep test kit. Like throat cultures used in doctors' offices, this test involves swabbing your throat, agitating the swab in a test tube, and using the test strip to see your results. According to Rapid Response and the FDA, the test has a 97 percent accuracy rate for strep A. If you test positive, call your doctor to discuss treatment options. If the results are negative, your sore throat may be caused by a virus, not strep, and you may just need to ride it out. If you test negative but are still showing signs of infection, such as a fever, consult your doctor. Other at-home strep kits are available as well, such as Pro Advantage made by National Distribution and Contracting, Inc.

Allergies – MyAllergyTest, approximate cost $53

Curious about whether your sniffles and itches are caused by allergies? The MyAllergyTest kit from ImmuneTech, the first and only at-home allergy test, tests for the 10 most common allergens: timothy grass, bermuda grass, cedar, ragweed, mold, egg, milk, wheat, cats, and house dust mite, with an FDA-confirmed 93 percent accuracy. Simply use the included finger prick collection kit to take a blood sample, package it according to the directions, mail it in, and get your results via email or snail mail in about a week. In addition to the results, you get a personalized allergy management plan and a list of allergists in your area to consult.

UTIs – AZO Urinary Tract Infection Test Strips, approximate cost $10

Urinary tract infections can be painful and lead to serious complications. Knowing whether your pain is caused by a UTI or something else could help you get treatment much faster. Urinary Tract Infection Test Strips from AZO give you a reading in minutes – letting you know if you need to call the doctor. There are three strips in every pack, and they detect UTIs with nearly 95 percent accuracy, according to the FDA. There are many different brands of UTI tests available, including ones made by Multistixand Mission as well as several drug store brands.

Cholesterol – Cholestrak Total Cholesterol Home Testing Kit, approximate cost $25

High cholesterol can lead to heart attack and stroke. With this Home Testing Kit by Cholestrak, you can get a total cholesterol reading within 15 minutes, with a 97 percent accuracy rate, according to Cholestrak and the FDA. This product will also help you determine your high-density lipoprotein level (HDL), or “ood”cholesterol level. Knowing your total cholesterol and your HDL results can help you calculate your Cardio Heart Disease (CHD) risk factor. Each testing device just requires a few drops of blood from a finger prick. In addition to your results, the Cholestrak test lets you know whether you should consult your doctor about your cholesterol level. Other brands of cholesterol tests include one made by First Check, and cholesterol test strips that work with portable blood meters like CardioChek.

Thyroid – Home Thyroid TSH Test from Home Health Testing, approximate cost $31

If your thyroid hormones are off, it can interfere with the normal balance of chemical reactions in your body, and eventually cause a number of different health problems fromobesity to heart disease. A Home Thyroid TSH Test kit can help detect thyroid problems with a quick finger prick blood test that measures Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). Simply follow the instructions and put the blood sample onto the collection card, and once it dries, send it off to the lab for analysis. After the lab receives your sample, it’l take about 10 days to process the blood work. Your secure results will then be available online. Review the results with your doctor to get a better sense of your overall thyroid health. Other companies like ThyroChek make a rapid TSH testing kit that offers results in 10 minutes, but the kit is pricier at about $150.
